Frequently Asked Questions: Criminal Defense FAQs
Rockland County Criminal Defense Attorney
For the last 15 years I have been successfully representing clients in the criminal justice system. During this time I have found there are common questions which arise during interviews and legal consultations. In order to assist your case and get you answers to some of the basic questions, I have put together this FAQ and provided answers below. If you have further questions, call a Rockland Country criminal defense attorney at my firm in order to get your case and legal options reviewed.
How do I choose the right attorney?
When choosing an attorney, is it advised that you review their experience at trial and success record. You need an attorney you can depend on to aggressively fight for you from case preparation all the way through litigation in order to pursue the best possible case outcome. I am a former Senior Assistant District Attorney and a former narcotics prosecutor. I have an extensive trial record and am known for my ability to bring successful conclusions to particularly complex and serious cases.
What if I am falsely accused?
Innocence is not the sole factor when it comes to mounting a strong criminal defense, as can be seen in the fact there are many innocent individuals currently serving time in prison. Evidence is essential, of course, as most prosecutors will not file charges unless they feel there is sufficient evidence in order to convict. This is why I urge you to seek qualified legal representation from my firm right away so that I can thoroughly review the evidence and case against you, in order to determine the best course of action.
Will I serve jail or prison time?
Without a complete review of your case, there is no definite way to answer this question. This is why in a situation where you have been accused of a crime or been charged with some form of criminal offense, you need to seek legal representation from my firm immediately. As laid out in NY Penal Law, there are a number of crimes, such as certain white collar crimes, for which you could be facing both state and federal charges. On the other hand, a grand larceny charge in the fourth degree, could mean up to four years in state prison or up to twenty-five years in state prison if you are facing grand larceny in the first degree. Don't put yourself and your freedom at risk. When you need an attorney who will fight hard for your rights, you need the Law Offices of William J. Reddy.
What types of criminal cases does your firm defend?
My firm represents and builds strong criminal defense cases for clients charged with any of the following crimes: criminal defense, DWI, larceny, drug crimes, wiretap cases, assault, sex crimes, burglary, robbery, domestic violence, forgery, traffic violations, weapons charges, white collar crimes, and juvenile crimes. I also help those who have suffered from a miscarriage of justice by filing criminal appeals, and am often called upon by other law firms to assist in difficult criminal cases and appeals through Rockland County, New York City and Hudson Valley.
