The Town of Haverstraw is situated just five miles north of New City, where our office is located, right on the Hudson River. Haverstraw comprises two-and-a-half villages: the Village of Haverstraw, the Village of West Haverstraw, and the Village of Pomona, which was formed from portions of Ramapo and Haverstraw. The Town of Haverstraw Justice Court holds criminal court every Monday at 5pm and Thursday at 9am. Traffic violation hearings are held sporadically as the court schedules them. Other times and dates are reserved for civil court hearings.
The Town of Haverstraw Justice Court handles all parking and traffic tickets, municipal violations, and misdemeanor criminal offenses. This court is equipped to handle non-jury trials as well as trials by jury. Haverstraw’s town police is broken up into three separate sections: a patrol division, a detective division, and a youth division. The patrol unit is responsible for normal patrolling and making felony, misdemeanor, and violation arrests. The Haverstraw patrol division also provides emergency response. Haverstraw’s detective division has a four-person staff and two additional patrol officers specifically tasked with street crimes. This division is responsible for investigating major crimes such as homicide, robbery, and sex crimes. The youth division is comprised of two detectives tasked with investigating incidents involving individuals under the age of 16.
